Dr Binay Kumar Panjiyar from Nepal

My name is Binay Kumar Panjiyar and I come from Nepal. Being youth from low-income family, my journey as an activist has really been difficult. From my early childhood I wanted to become a doctor. Often during my school and college days, I had to sleep with an empty stomach. But despite those unfavorable situations, through my continuous struggle and believe in myself, I successfully passed the most competitive National Entrance Exams, finishing the medical school with a full scholarship.

During college days, my friends used to take me to the students´ meetings at our University where slowly I became popular among students – I believe it was thanks to my lucid ideology and fiery speaking skills. I participated in all the activities at the University and formed the organization called “Youth for Equality” with me as president. I believe in ideas of John Locke, Frederic Bastiat and Ayn Rand. In the past I used to read a lot of Amartya Sen and B.R. Ambedkar. Since I got introduced to the liberal ideas and values I started advocating for them at several platforms and public gatherings. I started speaking for freedom from all sorts of discriminations, end of poverty, end of colonial rule. I advocate for equality of all the citizens residing in our country. We organized different protest programs to get our issues addressed in the Constitution. We organized mass rallies and talk programs across the country. The communist government was trying to curb the rights of the people. We felt the need of a new organization and formed “Madheshee Youth Think Tank”. I was arrested more than four times during those mass demonstrations and was severely tortured.

I received trainings about the democratic process and its economic values from different organizations including Harvard University, APPDSA. My liberal beliefs became more immense after I got an opportunity to join summer training by the Language of Liberty Institute. Liberty Camp changed my life and had a great impact on the way I think. I realized that this is what our people and country need. I came to understand that states all across the world denied peoples freedom and it can be guaranteed only through proper advocacies and mass-movements. Freedom is something for which you have to pay the price and I was prepared to pay it. The history of libertarian movement is a long one but till now our nation is still aloof from it. We are trying to reach all the people in our society, nation and the world. Only through the core values of liberty, complete economic freedom and limited role of governments , nation can prosper. That is how we can establish peace and prosperity in the world. During the Liberty Camp I discovered leadership potential inside me, I found that I was peoples´ man who liked to fight for the cause and create opportunities for the fellow men.

I seriously need to participate in this project in order to enhance my skills as a libertarian activist. My country dramatically needs liberty. I need this opportunity for more than 30 million people back in my homeland. I have decided to spend my whole life fighting for these values. Currently I am a law student as well. Learning has been a continuous process for me and you will see me flourishing in the course of Project Arizona as well. I will leave no stone unturned to make my country and the whole world a better place to live in.
